Eagles Fall to Third Ranked Lakers

The Ashland University women's soccer team fell to the third ranked Grand Valley State Lakers 4-0 on Sunday afternoon. The loss marks the Eagles' second consecutive loss after losing a 4-2 decision against Ferris State on Friday.

Grand Valley got on the board quickly, in the eighth minute Katie Klunder knocked in her second goal of the season. That goal put the Lakers up 1-0. In the 18th minute, GVSU's Marti Corby scored on a Katie Mounds and Gabriella Mencotti assist. Grand Valley went into halftime up 2-0.
      
Once play resumed in the second half the Lakers picked up where they left off. They tacked on two more goals in the 61st and 76th minutes to cruise to victory. 
       
The Eagles just couldn't muster any offense against the potent Grand Valley defense. AU only managed seven shots the entire game, and only one in the second half. The Lakers countered with 28 shots, 14 of which were on goal. 
    
The Eagles fall to 7-6-0 on the season, 3-5-0 in the GLIAC. Grand Valley stands at 13-2-0, 8-1-0 in the GLIAC.
     
The Eagles return to the pitch Friday, October 24th. The game will get under way at 7 pm.
