The Chargers are annually one of the GLIAC's top outfits. Playing at HC is usually about as fun as having a root canal.
Saturday, the Eagles, after losing 3-1 at Northwood on Friday, rebounded for a 3-0 victory against the Chargers. The Eagles won, 26-24, 25-23, 25-23. The Eagles are 14-5 and 8-3 in the GLIAC. The Chargers are 10-9 and 7-4.
This was AU's ninth 3-0 triumph of the season.
Alli Cudworth paced the Eagles with 13 kills. Baley Bernthisel had 10 kills. Shelly DeHenning collected 36 assists and Marci Zegarac had 15 digs. Casey Clark added 10 digs.
Haylee Boom and Emily Wolfert had seven kills each for Hillsdale.
This two-week stretch has pitted the Eagles against some of the GLIAC's best teams. Last week the Eagles hosted nationally ranked Ferris State and Grand Valley State. The Eagles have gone 2-2 in this stretch and next week, compete in the GLIAC-GLVC Crossover.
All three sets against the Chargers were tense. The first set was tied, 24-24 when the Eagles scored two consecutive points to wrap up the victory. In the second set, the Eagles were in front, 24-23 when Bernthisel got a kill to put the Eagles up, 2-0. The third set was 19-19 before the Eagles were able to get some separation from the Chargers.
