The Ashland women's soccer team finished its seven-game road swing with a 3-0 defeat to the ninth-ranked Grand Valley State Lakers on Sunday (Sept. 26) in Allendale, Mich.
The Eagles (2-5-1, 1-4-1 GLIAC) kept the ball out of the back of the net in the first half, despite the Lakers (7-1-1, 5-1-1 GLIAC) collecting eight corner kicks and rolling up a 15-0 advantage in shots (three on goal).
The Lakers broke the scoreless tie in the 68th minute off a cross by Kylee Merino that set up a 12-yard strike into the bottom left corner of the net by forward Jaleen Dingledine. Dingledine earned herself a hat trick in the match scoring again in the 70th and 73rd minutes.
For the second consecutive match freshman goalkeeper Karly Beuck (Lodi, Ohio/Cloverleaf) turned away 11 shots for the Eagles.
Grand Valley outshot the Eagles by a count of 31-5 (14-3 on goal) and held a 10-0 advantage in corner kicks.
After nearly a month between home matches, the Eagles will return to Ferguson Field on Friday (Oct. 1) to take on GLIAC foe Michigan Tech (3-5, 1-5 GLIAC). Kickoff is set for 5 p.m.
