ASHLAND, Ohio – The first time the Ashland women's soccer team went into overtime it found a magical goal as time expired for a dramatic home win to start the season.
The Eagles had no such fortune this time around, coming away with a 0-0 tie at GLIAC opponent Ohio Dominican on Friday (Sept. 17) evening.
Ashland's had a chance at the win in the first overtime, but sophomore midfielder Alyssa Gervelis (Powell, Ohio/Dublin Jerome) hit the post on a shot coming off a free kick just outside the penalty area with five minutes left.
AU freshman midfielder Katelyn Peterson (Vermilion, Ohio) had a chance in the 81st minute, but her shot hit the crossbar and fell on the goal line before Ohio Dominican keeper Aimee Simonet pounced on it.
The Eagles (2-2-1, 1-2-1 GLIAC) and Panthers played most of the game in the midfield with the Panthers holding an advantage in shots, 14-8.
Ashland freshman keeper Karly Beuck (Lodi, Ohio/Cloverleaf) made five saves – including one in the second overtime period – to preserve her second career clean sheet.
Simonet also made five saves in the 110-minute match.
The Panthers held a 6-5 advantage in corner kicks, but five of those came in the first half.
The Eagles will return to action on Sunday (Sept. 19) at 3 p.m. at Northern Kentucky to play their fifth game in a seven-game road trip.
