ODU Women Shut Out Eagles, 3-0

Ashland University's Ferguson Field sits on a hill. The playing field is flat, although the on Friday (Oct. 22), the AU women's team might have disputed that fact.

The Eagles had to play uphill all day, falling behind early and then spending the rest of afternoon trying to climb out of a valley. The final result was a 3-0 loss to Ohio Dominican that leaves the Eagles with a 3-8-2 mark, 2-7-2 in the GLIAC.

This was the Eagles' third consecutive loss and the second straight outing in which they were shut out.  Jennifer Holton put the Panthers (8-3-3, 4-3-3) ahead, 1-0 at 30:07. She took a cross from the left side off the toe of Sierra Patterson and deposited the ball past keeper Karly Beuck (Lodi, Ohio/Cloverleaf) from 15 yards out.

Ohio Dominican rolled up a 9-2 edge in shots in the first half.  That pattern continued early in the second half when ODU went in front, 2-0.  Anna Cameron gave the visitors that two-goal advantage on an unassisted goal at 47:41. At 49:22, Holton scored off of a feed from Marie Fudacz to complete the scoring.

ODU led in shots, 12-8 and in corner kicks, 4-1.  This was the second meeting of the year between AU and Ohio Dominican. On Sept. 17, at ODU, the teams battled to scoreless tie.

The Eagles return to action on Sunday (Oct. 24, noon) when they host Urbana in a non-conference match.
