2013: The 2013 season was Sortwell's first at Ashland and he was one of the top hitters in the conference and region. Sortwell was named first team All-GLIAC, first team all-region (NCBWA) and second team all-region (Daktronics). He tied for second in the GLIAC in homers, was fourth in RBI and tied for sixth in stolen bases.  Sortwell led the Eagles in homers, RBI, total bases and slugging percentage. He tied for second on the club in stolen bases and doubles and was second in runs and triples. Sortwell started all 56 games last season.

High School: Sortwell hit .454 with three homers and 28 RBI as a senior at Aragon High School. That same year he scored 41 runs and had 21 stolen bases.  That Aragon team won a league championship. Sortwell was a three-time all-conference selection. He was a two-time all-county performer and a two-time All-Metro Team pick. Sortwell lettered three times in baseball and twice in football. He was an All-Peninsula Athletic League pick on the gridiron.

Personal: Sortwell's parents are Anne and Peter Sortwell. The outfielder is a political science major.
