2011-12: The season Yates put together as a junior ranks as one of the best for a front court player in school history...earned second team All-America honors (Daktronics), he was the first AU player to be named an All-American in 20 years...led the GLIAC in scoring (20.8 ppg.), rebounds (11.3 rpg.), field goal percentage (.613) and minutes played (33.1)...was sixth in the league in blocked shots (33/1.3 bpg.)...was fourth in the country in rebounding and double-doubles (17), 11th in field goal percentage and 15th in scoring...his rebounds per game figure is the best single-season mark in school history and his 295 total rebounds is the highest in school history...the 542 points he scored last season is the eighth best single-season total at Ashland and his points per game mark is the 10th best at Ashland...his field goal percentage mark is the third best single-season figure at AU...had 18 games of 20 or more points...reached his career high of 31 points against Point Park (Nov. 23, 2011) and pulled down a career-high 20 rebounds against Central State (Nov. 18, 2011)...had 18 games of 10 or more rebounds...in that game with Point Park, also had 18 rebounds...Yates didn't have less than 10 rebounds in any of the first eight games of the season...had 23 points and 11 rebounds in the GLIAC Tournament game at Hillsdale (Feb. 29)...was 11-of-14 from the floor against Point Park and was 14-of-18 from the floor (.778) against Wilberforce (Dec. 7)....played 37 or more minutes in a game three times...had three rejections in a game four times...failed to score in double figures just once - that was a nine-point game at Hillsdale (Dec. 1)...named first team All-GLIAC...went past 1,000 career points last season...Yates begins his senior season 17th in career points at Ashland and seventh in career rebounds.
2010-11: Yates continued to build his reputation as a force in the GLIAC in just his second season in an AU uniform… he led the league in field goal percentage (.607, 133-for-219), tied for ninth in rebounding (6.6 per game) and was 19th in scoring (13.9 per game)… he was second on the team in scoring and rebounding behind senior Kale Richardson… Yates was one of four players to play in all 26 games, including 24 starts… he scored in double figures 19 times and at least 14 points in the last eight games… he had four double-doubles… Yates eclipsed the 20-point mark five times, including a season-best 26 points in a 69-65 win over Tiffin on Jan. 13… he matched a career-high 11 rebounds two times, once against Lourdes (Jan. 15) and again on Feb. 5 against the Dragons… Yates shot at least 50 percent from the field in 22 games… he was a perfect 7-for-7 from the field at Michigan Tech (Feb. 17)... he had back-to-back double-doubles against Tiffin and Grand Valley State in February.
2009-10: Yates was one of the most pleasant surprises of the 2009-10 season as he developed into one of the GLIAC’s best young interior players… he finished second in the conference in field goal percentage (.600)… Yates tied for second on the team in rebounds per game and was third on the club in scoring… he was third on the team in blocked shots (16)… he had 16 or more points in a game five times… he reached his season high of 20 points against Rio Grande on Dec. 28… Yates posted two games with 10 or more rebounds… he retrieved a season-high 11 missed shots at Tiffin on Dec. 12 and had 10 rebounds at Lake Superior State on Dec. 17… he blocked three shots in a game twice, getting three rejections against Ferris State on Jan. 16 and at Lake Superior State on Dec. 17… went 6-for-6 from the field against Northern Michigan and 8-for-9 against Rio Grande on Dec. 28.
High School: Yates had a banner senior season at Walnut Hills… was the co-player of the year in the conference and was first team all-city, second team all-district and honorable mention all-state… was chosen as the team’s most valuable player his senior year… averaged 20.3 ppg., 11.4 rpg., and shot 60 percent from the floor… Walnut Hills went 17-4 and were co-champions of the league when Yates was a senior… played basketball for two years at Walnut Hills.
Personal: Yates is the son of Fletcher and Evelyn Yates… is an accounting major.
