A late goal allowed by Ashland University's men's soccer team led to a 2-1 Eagle loss to Gannon on Friday (Sept. 4) night at Ferguson Field.
The Eagles are 1-2, and the Golden Knights are 2-1.
In the 22
nd minute, the Golden Knights struck first when Rafa Hyde scored on a cross in front of the AU net. Assists went to Manuel Pereyra and Mario Lindo.
The Eagle equalizer came in the 43
rd minute, right before halftime, as senior forward
Sergio Ruiz's first goal of the fall came following assists from freshman midfielder
Cole Fisher and freshman forward
Owen Beskid.
Fisher and Beskid both turned in their first collegiate point on the play.
Gannon broke the tie in the 80
th minute, as Pereyra potted the Golden Knights' second goal from David Ivascu and Hyde.
A last AU chance following a corner kick in the final seconds stayed tantalizingly close to the Gannon goal line before being kicked away.
The Golden Knights had slim leads in both shots (15-14) and corner kicks (7-6) by game's end.
Ashland will begin a four-game road swing with the 2026 Great Midwest Athletic Conference opener at Tiffin at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday (Sept. 10).
