After the third and final round of the Midwest/Central Regional Preview at Grand Valley State on Tuesday (Sept. 15), the Ashland University men's golf team remained in fifth place to end the 18-team event.
The Eagles' final team score was 287-296-295—878. The host Lakers won at 290-288-284—862, Central Oklahoma took second at 290-289-290—869, and Wayne State placed third at 283-292-297—872.
Freshman
Ethan Krebs' collegiate debut was a successful one, as he tied for ninth place individually. Krebs finished at 72-71-72—215, and with six birdies on the tourney.
Close behind was junior
Mark Pillar, who tied for 15
th at 68-76-74—218, and recorded 10 birdies. Another freshman,
Zach Ayers, tied for 29
th at 75-76-71—222, and ended with 10 birdies, including three in a four-hole stretch on Tuesday.
The Eagles' team showing was rounded out on Tuesday by junior
Michael Fickle (tied for 64
th, 73-73-81—227, seven birdies) and freshman
Drew Deken (tied for 73
rd, 74-78-78—230, nine birdies).
Ashland's men will return to action on Monday and Tuesday (Sept. 21-22) at the University of Indianapolis Fall Invitational.
