The Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) and the University of Indianapolis jointly announced today that UIndy will become a full member of the conference effective July 1, 2027.
The move positions one of NCAA Division II's most successful athletic departments within a conference that closely aligns with UIndy's academic mission, competitive aspirations and commitment to providing an exceptional student-athlete experience.
As a member of the Great Midwest, UIndy will compete for conference championships beginning with the 2027-28 academic year.
"UIndy has distinguished itself among the best in NCAA Division II through its commitment to academic excellence, student success and national championship-caliber athletics, making it an exceptional fit for the Great Midwest Athletic Conference," said Commissioner Tom Daeger. "Their addition further strengthens a conference committed to academic achievement, competitive excellence and an outstanding student-athlete experience. UIndy's institutional profile, tradition of success and geographic location align perfectly with our strategic vision for the future. We are grateful to President Tanuja Singh and Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Kim Pate for their leadership and partnership throughout this process and look forward to welcoming the Greyhounds to the Great Midwest."
UIndy has established itself among the nation's premier Division II athletic programs, consistently earning national recognition for competitive and academic success, and most recently finishing third in the Division II Learfield Directors' Cup. The Greyhounds have captured conference and national championships, while developing a reputation for excellence across multiple sports.
"This move reflects a thoughtful evaluation of where we can best support our student-athletes while continuing to uphold the high standards of academic and athletic excellence that have long defined the University of Indianapolis," said University of Indianapolis president Dr. Tanuja Singh. "We are deeply grateful for our decades of partnership and competition in the GLVC, a conference that has played an important role in our history as a charter member. At the same time, we are excited to begin a new chapter in the G-MAC - one that builds on our proud tradition while creating new opportunities for our student-athletes, coaches, and the Greyhound community."
The move reflects a shared commitment between UIndy and the Great Midwest to place student-athlete success at the center of decision-making while building a sustainable model for long-term competitive excellence.
"Joining the G-MAC is an exciting strategic opportunity that strengthens the future of UIndy Athletics and enhances the experience of our Greyhound student-athletes," said Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Kim Pate. "This move aligns us with institutions that share our values, reinforces our commitment to academic and athletic excellence, improves geographic alignment, and positions Greyhound Athletics for sustained long-term success. Most importantly, our championship expectations remain unchanged. We will continue to compete for conference titles, NCAA postseason opportunities, and national championships while providing a best-in-class student-athlete experience."
