The Ashland University men's golf team dropped the medal match to the University of Findlay Oilers.
On Wednesday, April 22, the Eagles, coming in at second place, narrowly fell to the Oilers 3-2 in the final round of the Great Midwest Athletic Conference championships. They officially finished this year as the league's runner-up.
The Eagles' two-match wins came from the clubs of Shaun Mazzalupi and Mark Pillar, who knocked down their Oiler foes, 71-75Â and 73-75, respectively.
Even with a difficult showing on Wednesday, the team's performance at the championships is viewed as a major success. Across the board through Monday and Tuesday, numerous individuals performed well for the Eagles, with Charlie Drapp and Michael Fickle tying for fourth overall with a +4 and a stroke count of 217.
Through the first three rounds, the Eagles finished with a +25 and a total stroke count of 877.
The Eagles now prepare for a chance to compete in the NCAA regional championships, which are set to begin in the coming weeks.Â
