Ashland Baseball Rallies Following Saturday Struggles, Responds With Sunday Sweep

The Eagles Are Now 10 Games Above .500

Following a Saturday where the Eagles got swept, they responded with a sweep of their own a day later.

On Sunday, April 12, the Ashland University baseball team traveled to the University of Findlay to take on the Oilers, downing them in two games. They won game one, 7-5, before exploding in game two for 15 runs in a seven-run win.

In the opener, Ashland used a five-run third inning to take control early. Chris Franks provided the big swing with a three-run home run, while Drew Stevens added two hits and an RBI.

The Eagles added two more runs in the sixth to extend the lead.

Findlay responded with a four-run fifth inning, but Ashland's bullpen held firm. Jackson Grine earned the win, tossing four innings, while Josh Stalnaker secured the save with three innings of relief to close out the 7-5 victory.

With a win under their belt, Ashland had all the confidence in the world heading into game two.

Collin Overholt led the way with a three-run homer, while Billy Howard drove in three runs and collected multiple extra-base hits. Franks also homered and finished with two RBI.

Ashland's four-run third inning was where the game was broken open, with four more runs coming in the seventh and eighth frames. One run was scored in the ninth and two runs were scored in the sixth. In all, Ashland scored runs in all but the first, second, fourth and fifth innings.

Patrick Radigan picked up the win on the mound, while Chase Carter and Ben Zink helped relieve the Eagles later in the game.

The Eagles now bounce their record up to 23-13 overall and 12-8 in G-MAC action.

With the two wins, the Eagles will prepare to take on the Ohio Dominican Panthers at home on Tuesday, April 14, from Donges Field. The two sides will play at 3:00 p.m. EST and it will not count as a conference bout.
