On Saturday (March 7), Ashland University women's tennis team (3-6) moved its winning streak to three matches after a 6-1 win at Pikeville and a 4-0 win over King in a pair of match-ups in Kentucky.
Also Saturday, the Eagle men (3-7) lost 5-2 to Pikeville and 4-1 to King.
In the women's victory over Pikeville, singles victories came from senior
Anna Corbel at No. 2 (3-6, 6-0 [10-7]), senior
Ana Penteado at No. 3 (6-0, 6-0), sophomore
Maria Jemio at No. 4 (6-0, 6-0), junior
Evalienna Pryor at No. 5 (6-0, 6-0) and junior
Brittany Witsken at No. 6 (default).
Ashland also took all three doubles matches for that point – senior
Constanza Arancibia and Penteado at No. 1 (6-3), Witsken and Corbel at No. 2 (6-0), and Pryor and Jemio at No. 3 (default).
Against King, singles wins were earned by Arancibia at No. 1 (6-4, 7-6 [7-5]), Corbel at No. 2 (6-2, 6-3), and Penteado at No. 3 (6-2, 6-2). Ashland won two of three doubles match-ups for that point – Arancibia and Penteado at No. 1 (6-2), and Witsken and Corbel at No. 3 (6-4).
On the men's side, senior
Tomas Paskauskas (No. 2, 0-6, 6-4 [10-5]) and junior
Ryohei Miyake (No. 4, 6-3, 7-5) won at singles vs. Pikeville, and junior
Kaj Salzano and senior
Reid Opel won at No. 2 doubles (6-4). Versus King, the Eagles earned the doubles point with two wins – Miyake and Paskauskas at No. 1 (7-5), and senior
Gabriel Seminario and Opel at No. 2 (6-3).
COMING UP
The Eagle women will play vs. Saginaw Valley State on Saturday (March 14) at 2 p.m. at the Deborah Liebert Karl Tennis Complex, then both teams will go to Charleston on March 15.
