A strong combined pitching effort and just enough offense led Ashland University's baseball team to a third straight Florida win and a fourth consecutive victory overall, 3-0, over St. Cloud State on Saturday (March 7) night.
Â
The Eagles are 7-5, and the Huskies are 8-7.
Â
Thanks to a two-out RBI single from sophomore center fielder
Sean Krueckeberg, Ashland jumped on top in the bottom of the second inning. Junior catcher
Nate King's two-RBI double in the third put the Eagles up 3-0.
Â
Junior right-handed pitcher
Griffin Ailes (1-1) didn't need more support than that – and didn't allow a hit in the first 4 2/3 innings. He finished with a one-hit shutout over the first seven innings, striking out six and walking two.
Â
Freshman second baseman
Max Albert added the fourth and final Eagle run in the eighth on an RBI bunt out.
Â
THE 'PEN FINISHES IT OFF
- Senior righty David Smith threw a scoreless eighth, then graduate righty Chase Carter finished with a scoreless ninth.
- King was 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs in the victory.
- The win was Ashland's first shutout of 2026, and its fifth errorless game in the last six outings.
COMING UP
