The Ashland University softball team has started Great Midwest Athletic Conference play with a perfect 4-0 record.
On Sunday, March 22, the Eagles played host to the Kentucky Wesleyan Panthers from Deb Miller Field at the Archer Ballpark Complex for a doubleheader, coming out on top in both outings. Just a day prior, the Eagles swept the Walsh Cavaliers in a two-game series, with such efforts being repeated on Sunday.
Ashland won the first game, 7-3, before run-ruling the Panthers in game two, 8-0, in the fifth inning.
In the opener, Ashland used a pair of big innings to rally past Kentucky Wesleyan. Trailing 2-1, the Eagles scored three runs in the fourth inning to take the lead and added three more in the fifth to pull away.
Ashland finished with 13 hits, while Kentucky Wesleyan collected 12.
In Game 2, Ashland controlled play from the start and secured the sweep with an 8-0 victory in five innings.
The Eagles broke the game open with three runs in the second inning and added five more in the fourth.
Maren Metikosh led the way with four RBI, including a bases-clearing triple, and Delaney Maynard added three RBI. Olivia Amstutz earned the win, allowing two hits and striking out eight over five innings in the shutout.
With the win, the Eagles are now 14-8 overall and 4-0 in G-MAC play.
As Ashland looks to keep this momentum alive, they'll prepare to take on the Indiana University of Pennsylvania Crimson Hawks on Tuesday, March 24, for a road doubleheader. The first game will be played at 2:000 p.m. EST.
