Softball Tops Vulcans, GVSU To Continue Florida Trip

Ashland University's softball team now has a three-game winning streak following Florida wins over California (Pa.) and Grand Valley State on Thursday (March 12).

The Eagles (8-8), now 8-5 in the last 13 games, defeated the Vulcans, 10-6, then the Lakers for the second time down south, 1-0.

Against the Vulcans, Ashland rallied from a 4-0 deficit after a half-inning to win. With the score tied at 5, the Eagles put up their own four-run inning in the bottom of the fifth, capped off by a two-run single from senior second baseman Danielle Robbins.

Senior third baseman Amanda Kolar was 3-for-4 with three RBIs, and redshirt freshman pitcher Olivia Amstutz (3-1) scattered five hits, six runs (five earned) and six walks and struck out five in getting the complete-game win.

Senior pitcher Delaney Lis (3-5) authored a complete-game five-hit shutout vs. GVSU, striking out one and walking four. The only run support she needed was a two-out RBI single from junior right fielder Kate Kujawski in the top of the first.

COMING UP
The end of the Florida trip on Friday (March 13) at 10 a.m. vs. Clarion, and 12:15 p.m. against Edinboro.
