Ashland University's softball team split two games on Saturday (Feb. 7) to end the New Smyrna Tournament in Tennessee, topping Quincy 5-1 and losing to No. 22 Indianapolis, 7-6.

The Eagles (1-3) turned in two crooked numbers in the win over the Hawks, scoring three times in the bottom of the fourth and twice more in the bottom of the fifth. Junior center fielder
Delaney Maynard had an RBI triple in the fourth, and junior catcher
Sophia Martin hit a solo home run in the fifth.

Olivia Amstutz (1-0) earned her first collegiate victory in a complete-game five-hitter. She struck out nine and walked two.

Cassidy Shaffer had two of AU's nine hits.

Against Indy, the Eagles took a 4-0 lead in the top of the second inning – highlighted by a two-run double from Martin. Ashland added single runs in the third and fourth innings, leading 6-5 through four innings.

The Greyhounds, however, scored twice in the bottom of the seventh to win at the end.

Amanda Kolar went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI, and both Martin and junior shortstop
Sophia Smithnosky each drove in two runs.
