Jud Logan would have loved the women's weight throw elite competition on Day 1 of his Light Giver Open on Friday (Feb. 6) at the Niss Athletic Center.
Either an Ashland University assistant coach or current Eagle throwers took the top four spots on Friday - led by volunteer assistant
Rachel Richeson, who maintains her spot as one of the world's best after a top heave of 25.94 meters/85-feet-1¼.
Then, junior
Molly Winner finished second (21.38 meters/70-feet-1¾), junior
Leslie Pollock took third (19.20 meters/63-feet-0), and sophomore
Miranda Stone ended fourth with a new nationals provisional distance of 18.47 meters/60-feet-7¼.
Five other relays and individuals earned new or improved provos for the 2026 NCAA Division II Championships in Virginia Beach, Va., on March 13-14:
- The women's distance medley relay team of senior Hope Sievert, sophomore Olivia Saylor, senior Jade Avance and senior Emilie Lemon (new, first, 11:43.46).
- The men's DMR of sophomore Wes Taylor, senior Joe Wahl, junior Colton Thress and junior Zach Vales (new, first, 9:51.94).
- Junior Hailey Rios in the women's long jump elite (new, first, 5.77 meters/18-feet-11¼).
- Sophomore Hayden Valenti in the men's weight throw elite (improved, second, 19.75 meters/64-feet-9¾).
- Junior Cameron Nightingale in the men's pole vault (new, fourth, 4.80 meters/15-feet-9).
SECOND PLACE
- Graduate Brayden Jackson in the men's pole vault (5.05 meters/16-feet-6¾).
- Sophomore Brianna Chenevey in the women's 200-meter dash (24.72 seconds).
- Sophomore Nalin Robinson in the men's weight throw (16.13 meters/52-feet-11).
- Junior Sidney Sheppert in the women's triple jump (11.12 meters/36-feet-5¾).
