Eagles Come Up Short Late, Fall 29-20 to West Liberty

The Eagles Finished With Three-Straight Weight-Class Wins

Three late weight-class wins helped give the Eagles momentum moving forward.

On Thursday, Feb. 12, the Ashland University wrestling team traveled to West Liberty, W. Va., to take on the Hilltoppers, falling 29-20. While they did end up losing, three late wins in the 184-, 197- and 285-pound weight classes gave the team a bit of a spark heading into their next match ups.

The Eagles, who are coming off a Great Midwest Athletic Conference championship just a short few weeks ago, were able to secure a total of four individual victories in the loss.

In the 149 weight class, junior Hayden Kuhn was able to take home a technical fall win over West Liberty's Joey Sentipal, 19-4.

Just a few classes later, Fletcher Rose took a 10-2 major decision over Hilltopper Oliver Byerly at 184 pounds.

Following Rose in the 197-pound weight class, Peyton Lemon took home a victory over Blissenbach, dominating him 19-4 in a technical fall.

Finally, in the 285, Wyatt Bailey was able to beat Vincent Parke by a fall, snagging six team points to cap off the meet on a high note.

Up next, Ashland is preparing to host the Thomas More Saints and Glenville State Pioneers on Sunday, Feb. 15, from Kates Gymnasium. The tri-meet will begin at noon EST.
