Volleyball Tops Walsh, Takes Sole Possession Of First Place In G-MAC

There now is only one volleyball team which is undefeated in Great Midwest Athletic Conference play in 2026 – and it is Ashland University's volleyball team.

On Saturday (Oct. 3) night at the Sherrill Hudson Court at Kates Gymnasium, the Eagles topped Walsh, 3-1 (19-25, 25-16, 25-21, 25-18), to not only lead the East Division by themselves, but the entire conference by themselves.

Ashland improves to 15-2 overall and 10-0 in the league thanks to its fifth consecutive victory and 12th in the last 13 matches. The Cavaliers are 9-6, 5-1.

Saturday's win had many contributors. Defensively, the Eagles kept Walsh to a .139 team hitting percentage – with top efforts being turned in by senior libero Abbey Queen (26 digs), junior outside hitter Samantha Young (15 digs), and sophomore defensive specialist Sydney Weickert (10 digs).

Offensively, four Eagles finished with double-digit kills – junior outside hitter Sara Krizsa (13), sophomore right-side hitter Kelsey Lykins (13), Young (10) and freshman outside hitter Haley Balo (10).

AU's senior setter duo of Kylee Urban (27) and Marin Dixon (22) combined for 49 assists.

The Eagles' match on Saturday was the last of four in a row at home. AU won't play again at home until Nov. 6.

Ashland's seven-match road/neutral-site stretch will begin on Friday (Oct. 9) at 6 p.m. at Ursuline.
