No. 16 AU Women Lose Opener At Home To No. 5 Lakers

In a season-opening NCAA Division II Midwest Region matchup on Thursday (Sept. 4) night at Ferguson Field, the No. 16-ranked Ashland University women's soccer team lost 1-0 to No. 5 Grand Valley State.
 
Each of the last four meetings in the series have ended in a 1-0 score.
 
An even contest turned in the Lakers' favor in the 80th minute, as Sarah Fromm scored in front the net off a feed from Ivy Wilhelm.
 
CHECKING OUT THE FINAL STATS
  • AU used two goalkeepers to begin the season – fifth-year Jaya Daniel (four saves in the first half) and freshman Izzy Ezzone (two saves in the second half).
  • Grand Valley State out-shot Ashland by a 12-3 count.
  • Corner kicks on Thursday night were 6-4 in the Eagles' favor.
