The 2025 Great Midwest Athletic Conference season began for both Ashland University's and Tiffin's men's soccer teams at Ferguson Field on Tuesday (Sept. 16) night, and two goals in the last six minutes lifted the Dragons to a 2-1 win.
Ashland is 1-2-1 overall and 0-1-0 in the league, while Tiffin is 2-1-1, 1-0-0.
Tuesday's game was headed toward a scoreless halftime, but one last push resulted in an Eagle goal with 15 ticks to go. Senior midfielder
Riki Soto's first goal of the fall, after a deflection following a throw-in, gave Ashland the lead going into the locker room.
In the 85
th minute, however, Tiffin knotted the game when Griffin Cook scored in front of the Eagle net on feeds from Kris McDonald and Yaw Turkson. Then, in the final minute, the Dragons scored the eventual game-winner when Turkson scored on a pass from Mamadou Keita.
WRAPPING IT UP
- Sophomore goalkeeper Alvaro Boned stopped eight shots on Tuesday night.
- Tiffin out-shot Ashland, 13-7, and the Dragons had a slight 5-4 corner kick advantage.
