MASON, Ohio – To open the 2025 Great Midwest Athletic Conference Tournament on Wednesday (May 7) afternoon at Legacy Field, the No. RV Ashland University baseball team scored all eight of its runs in the last three innings, but lost to Ohio Dominican, 10-8.
The Eagles, who went 2-0 vs. the Panthers in a pair of midweek non-conference games earlier this spring, are 35-16. The Panthers are 22-28.
Ohio Dominican got on the board first, scoring in the top of the second inning on a three-run home run. It was just the 19
th round-tripper the Eagles have given up in 2025.
In the third, the Panthers added two more runs on a fielder's choice and an error on the same play to up their advantage to 5-0. The fourth saw an Ohio Dominican RBI triple and a run-scoring ground out, raising its lead to 7-0.
Another Panther run on a single in the fifth made it an 8-0 game.
Then, with two outs in the bottom of the seventh:
- Ashland got on the board when junior first baseman Sam Witt came home on a passed ball (original out call at home plate reversed on replay).
- Freshman center fielder Sean Krueckeberg then came up and cleared the bases with a double, cutting the Eagle deficit in half at 8-4.
- A wild pitch on a wild brought Krueckeberg home for an 8-5 contest.
After another replay overturn, the Panthers scored with two outs in the eighth to go back up by four at 9-5.
The back-and-forth continued in the bottom of the eighth, following a Panther error with no outs. Junior right fielder
Billy Howard's RBI single got the run back from the top of the frame, then an RBI fielder's choice from junior second baseman
Gavin Dobbels cut the deficit to two runs.
A Witt sacrifice fly for the first out of the ninth got Ashland closer at 9-8, but that ended up as the final score.

- Howard finished 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored, Witt was 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored, and Krueckeberg drove in three runs.
- Senior right-handed pitcher Hunter Allen (7-1) lost for the first time this season after allowing seven hits, seven runs and three walks and striking out three in 3 2/3 innings.
