Six-Run Eighth Dooms No. RV Baseball In Loss At Hillsdale

On Thursday (May 1) night, the No. RV Ashland University baseball team lost 10-7 at Hillsdale to begin the final four-game Great Midwest Athletic Conference series of the 2025 regular season.

The Eagles are 33-14 overall and 22-7 in the conference, and fall a half-game behind first-place Northwood in the North Division. The Chargers are 23-24, 16-13.

Thursday's contest began with the Eagles scoring a pair of runs – RBI singles from graduate designated hitter Max Caron and senior third baseman Jeremiah Cangelosi.

Hillsdale came back with a run in the second, but Ashland got the run back in the fourth when junior left fielder Billy Howard brought it in on a ground out. Later in the fourth, the Eagles made it a 4-1 game on an RBI single from freshman right fielder Sean Krueckeberg.

In the fifth, junior second baseman Gavin Dobbels drew a bases-loaded walk, then senior center fielder Cam Miller was hit by a pitch with the bags packed, for a 6-1 lead halfway through the game.

The Chargers came back with three runs in the sixth to cut the Ashland lead to 6-4, but when Miller came home on a wild pitch in the seventh, the Eagles' lead was restored to three runs at 7-4.

Hillsdale, however, scored six times in the eighth for the comeback victory.
