No. RV Eagles Finish Off Home Four-Game Sweep Of Findlay

On Sunday (April 6) at Tomassi Stadium and Donges Field at the Archer Ballpark Complex, the No. RV Ashland University baseball team earned its second Great Midwest Athletic Conference sweep of 2025 – following 5-0 and 10-3 wins over Findlay.

The Eagles have won six in a row and 17 of the last 19, and are 23-8 overall and 14-2 in the Great Midwest – two games behind Northwood for first place in the North Division. The Oilers are 15-15, 7-7.

Game 1's scoreless tie was broken in the bottom of the second, as a two-out RBI triple down the right-field line from junior catcher Noah Goddard gave AU a 1-0 lead. Senior third baseman Jeremiah Cangelosi's RBI fielder's choice, junior second baseman Gavin Dobbels' RBI bunt and junior shortstop Collin Overholt's run-scoring double in the third put Ashland up 4-0.

Cangelosi was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the fourth to increase the Eagle lead to 5-0.

One run would have been enough for senior right-hander Cam Scott (3-1), who twirled a complete-game four-hit shutout. Scott didn't walk a batter and struck out three, as he has extended his consecutive scoreless innings streak to 19 1/3 innings.

Sunday's second game started with Findlay scoring a run in the first, but Cangelosi came right back in the bottom of the frame with a two-run single to put AU back in the lead. Later in the first, sophomore first baseman Kaiden Mastri cleared the bases with a double to make it a 5-1 game after one.

Graduate designated hitter Max Caron, continuing to rank as one of NCAA Division II's top hitters, added an RBI single in the second for a 6-1 advantage. Back-to-back Oiler errors in the fourth allowed the Eagles to go up by a 7-1 count.

Findlay scored twice in the fifth to cut its deficit to 7-3. Following the seventh-inning stretch, senior catcher Ben Peltz drew a bases-loaded walk. Then, in the eighth, Caron's RBI single made it 9-3, and Overholt's bases-loaded freebie provided the final margin of victory.

CANGELOSI KEEPS DRIVING THEM IN…AND THE REST OF THE STORY
  • In the opener, junior left fielder Billy Howard finished 2-for-3 with a run scored, and Cangelosi had two RBIs.
  • Cangelosi added two more RBIs in Game 2, giving him a team-high 28 so far this season.
  • Also in the nightcap, Mastri drove in three runs, Caron drove in two, and Caron also was 3-for-4 with a double, a walk and two runs scored.
  • This season, Caron is slashing .484/.602/.659.
  • Senior lefty John Essig (3-0) earned the relief win with 2 1/3 scoreless frames, allowing a hit and three walks.
