The Ashland University softball team lost its final two regular-season games of 2025 on Saturday (April 26), falling 9-7 and 4-3 at Deb Miller Field at the Archer Ballpark Complex.
Â
At 23-20 overall and 13-10 in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference, the Eagles will go into the conference tournament on Wednesday (April 30) against an opponent and at a time to be determined.
Â
The Oilers are 31-11, 18-4.
Â
To open Game 1, Findlay scored once in the top of the first inning to go on top early. The Oilers added two more runs in the second and three more in the third for a 6-0 advantage.
Â
In the third, senior right fielder
Chloe McClure put Ashland on the board with a run-scoring double, then both sophomore catcher
Delaney Keith and senior designated player
Cassidy Shaffer added sacrifice flies to cut the deficit in half.
Â
Findlay posted another run in the fourth to go back up by four runs at 7-3, then two more in the sixth for a 9-3 lead.
Â
In the bottom of the seventh, McClure's sac fly made it 9-4, then Shaffer cleared the bases with a double to be down by two runs. Ashland's rally fell short following a base-running miscue.
Â
Game 2 began with a two-run double in the second from junior third baseman
Amanda Kolar in the second. Findlay came back with a run of its own in the fifth to knot the score at 2, but Shaffer's RBI single in the bottom of the fifth allowed the Eagles to regain the lead.
Â
The Oilers scored twice with two outs in the seventh for the eventual game-winning runs.
