No. RV Baseball Loses In Florida To No. 20 Lakers

Ashland University's No. RV baseball team resumed play on its annual Florida Spring Break trip on Wednesday (March 5), losing to No. 20 Grand Valley State, 5-2.

The Eagles are 5-5, and the Lakers are 9-2.

Thanks to a sacrifice fly from junior left fielder Billy Howard, Ashland took a 1-0 lead in the top of the third inning. Grand Valley, however, scored single runs in the bottom of the third, fourth and seventh innings to go up 3-1.

The Eagles cut their deficit in half in the eighth when junior second baseman Gavin Dobbels collected a run-scoring double. The Lakers then scored two insurance runs in the bottom of the frame.

…AND THE REST OF THE STORY
  • Dobbels and senior designated hitter Cam Scott each had two of AU's seven hits.
  • Senior left-handed pitcher Brendan Beaver (0-3) threw the first 6 1/3 innings, allowing nine hits, three runs and no walks and striking out four.
UP NEXT
Ashland will face another former conference rival in Wayne State (4-4) on Thursday (March 6) at 4 p.m. in Winter Haven.
