The third and final round of the Ashland Spring Invitational was played at the Ashland Golf Club on Sunday (March 30) afternoon, and Ashland University's men's golf team jumped up one spot to finish in third place in the nine-team field.
At 302-296-293—891, the Eagles finished behind only team medalist Wayne State (287-287-280—854) and second-place Missouri S&T (290-286-287—863).
Freshman
Charlie Fish paced the AU "A" team on the weekend, placing in a tie for 18
th individually at 76-75-72—223. Fish had an eagle and eight birdies over 54 holes.
Both junior
Carter Mishler and senior
Matthew McMullen finished tied for 20
th. Mishler finished 74-74-76—224 and had eight birdies, while McMullen was 78-73-73—224 and ended with an eagle and seven birdies.
Freshman
Shaun Mazzalupi tied for 23
rd at 76-77-72—225 (one eagle, one birdie), and fellow rookie
Mark Pillar tied for 33
rd at 76-74-78—228 (two eagles, four birdies).
While Ashland's "B" team placed fifth at 306-293-298—897, two Eagles were the program's top individual finishers on the weekend – junior
Scott Armstrong (tied for 11
th, 75-76-69—220, one eagle, 11 total birdies) and freshman
Sam Sutton (tied for 16
th, 77-71-74—222, 12 total birdies).
