The Ashland University men's golf team started the spring championship season on Monday (March 3) at Lander's Bearcat Classic at The Patriot Golf Course At Grand Harbor in Ninety Six, S.C., but couldn't get the full 36 holes in due to darkness.
When play was suspended on Monday, the Eagles were in eighth place in the 19-team field at 6-over par. Wingate is first in the team standings (16-under), Grand Valley State is second (6-under), and Lenoir-Rhyne third (1-under).
Senior
Matthew McMullen and junior
Carter Mishler paced the AU effort on Monday with matching 1-under par totals. They are tied for 14
th individually, Mishler with an eagle and seven birdies on the day and McMullen with five birdies.
Rounding out the team scorers for the Eagles were three freshmen –
Mark Pillar (5-over, four birdies),
Charlie Fish (6-over, four birdies) and
Shaun Mazzalupi (8-under, four birdies).
Individuals playing at the tourney are freshman
Sam Sutton (2-over, nine birdies), freshman
Michael Fickle (4-over, six birdies) and junior
Lukas Schreck (11-over, two birdies).
