No. 15 AU Women Lead Great Midwest Alone Following Win At Saints

Still having yet to yield a goal in Great Midwest Athletic Conference play in 2025, the No. 15-ranked Ashland University women's soccer team topped Thomas More on the road on Thursday (Oct. 2) night, 5-0.

The Eagles' overall win streak has moved to six games, and they are 7-2 overall and 5-0 in the Great Midwest – and alone in first place – following a fifth straight clean sheet. The Saints are 3-6, 2-3.

Fifth-year goalkeeper Jaya Daniel (7-1) made one save to drop her season goals-against average to 0.40.

Ashland has outscored its conference opponents so far this fall by a 24-0 count.

Coming into the game as the No. 2 team in NCAA Division II in corner kicks per game (8.75), the Eagles ended Thursday night with a season-high of 21 (Thomas More didn't take one).

Ashland out-shot the Saints by a 24-1 count.

HOW THE EAGLES SCORED
  • Freshman forward Izzy Rogers, drawing in off the Eagle bench, broke the scoreless tie in the 39th minute by recording her first collegiate goal. Senior defender Kali Funk picked up her first assist of the season, as did senior midfielder Emily Pate.
  • The Eagles wasted little time increasing their lead to 2-0, on sophomore midfielder Sofia Divine's third tally of the season in the 49th minute. Senior forward Dani Hicks picked up her sixth assist and 22nd point of the season, two of the top figures in D-II.
  • In the 84th minute, senior midfielder Keira Erling potted her third goal of the fall, with freshman midfielder Karleigh Cress picking up her second assist.
  • Freshman forward Sam Zeiter collected her first goal as an Eagle, unassisted, in the 88th minute. Then freshman midfielder Addie Niemi did the same thing as the final second of the game ticked off, with Erling getting her first assist of the season.
  • Twelve different Eagles have scored a goal so far in 2025.
