A senior-to-senior goal on Senior Night was good enough for the No. 16-ranked Ashland University women's soccer team on Saturday (Oct. 18) at Ferguson Field, as the Eagles took a 1-0 decision from Lake Erie.
Â
The Eagles, now 8-0-2 over the last 10 games, improved to 9-2-2 overall and 7-0-2 in the Great Midwest – now one point ahead of second-place Findlay. The Storm are 7-3-3, 4-2-3.
Â
"It was important for us to get a shutout tonight and figure out ways to score," said Ashland head coach
Cayleb Paulino. "We'll take three points."
Â
After a scoreless first half, the Eagles broke through in the 57
th minute when senior midfielder
Emily Pate scored her fourth goal of the season on a ricochet off the crossbar. Senior defender
Natalie Miskerik picked up her second assist of 2025.
Â
"They stepped up in big moments," Paulino said, "and rose to the occasion. We challenged them to find a way to get one, and great to see Emily get on the scoresheet."
Â
THE FIRST SOLO CLEAN SHEET
- Freshman goalkeeper Izzy Ezzone (1-1) not only earned her first collegiate win on Saturday night, but her first solo collegiate shutout, as well. She made one save.
- "She was pretty brave in one moment and managed it and came off her line, was aggressive," Paulino said. "We're excited. Built confidence for her. I was proud of her efforts."
- Ashland had five shots to Lake Erie's three, and the Eagles took eight of the game's nine corner kicks.
