Nationally-Ranked AU Men, Women Open Action At Midwest Classic

Day 1 of the Midwest Classic in Indianapolis, Ind., was contested by the No. 9-ranked Ashland University women's indoor track and field team and the No. 10 Eagle men on Friday (Jan. 31), with more provisional marks being earned toward qualification for the 2025 NCAA Division II Championships, March 13-15 in Indianapolis, Ind..
 
Sophomore Molly Winner became the first D-II woman to clear 20 meters in the women's weight throw this season, finishing in third place at 20.04 meters/65-feet-9. Right behind her was sophomore Leslie Pollock, whose fourth-place finish of 19.74 meters/64-feet-9ÂĽ also was an improved provo mark.
 
Yet another sophomore, Hailey Rios, earned a new provo in the women's long jump in a second-place showing of 5.83 meters/19-feet-1½.
 
Two Eagles found their way on to the provo list in the men's pole vault, as freshman Carter Smith (fourth) and senior Wyatt Cory (fifth) each finished at 4.88 meters/16-feet-0.
 
In the men's long jump, sophomore Justin Richards took second at 7.09 meters/23-feet-3ÂĽ.
