Ashland University's men's golf team played the first round at Wayne State's Motor City Shakedown on Monday (Sept. 30), and the Eagles sit in fourth place in the nine-team field through the first 18 holes.
The Eagles ended Day 1 with a team score of 297 – the fifth consecutive team round of better than 300 this fall. Saginaw Valley State is the leader through the first day at 289, followed by both Northern Michigan and the host Warriors, each at 290.
Ashland's freshmen led the way on Monday.
Mark Pillar is tied for seventh place individually following an even-par first round of 72, while
Charlie Fish is tied for 11
th following a 74.
