The No. 7-ranked Ashland University women's soccer team moved into first place alone in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference table on Saturday (Sept. 28) afternoon, topping Malone on the road, 3-0.
Â
With the victory, the Eagles move to 5-1-1 overall and 3-0-1 in the conference, while the Pioneers are 5-1-1, 3-1.
Â
The Eagles wasted little time in moving in front, as, in the eighth minute, senior forward
McKinley Mendenhall scored on an assist from senior forward
Tori Haggit. It was Mendenhall's second goal of 2024, and Haggit's first helper.
Â
Then, in the 45th minute, freshman midfielder
Rosie Pellegrino potted her first collegiate goal, unassisted, to give the Eagles a 2-0 lead going into the break.
Â
Ashland's final tally of the day came in the 85th minute, when senior midfielder
Sydney McMillan recorded her first goal of the season. Mendenhall had the helper, her team-high fourth of the campaign – which moves her into a tie for third place on the program's all-time list with 29.
