Ashland University's men's golf team accomplished quite a bit in a short period of time at the University of Indianapolis Invitational on Monday and Tuesday (Sept. 23-24).
Playing the third and final round on Tuesday, the Eagles finished in fourth in the nine-team field – as their 285-281-280—846 team score is the lowest in the program since at least 1996-97. Tuesday's 280 also is tied for the third-lowest by an AU men's team in the last 28 years.
And then there is senior
Matthew McMullen, who won the event at a 15-under 66-66-69—201 – a total which shattered the 54-hole individual low for an Eagle men's player since at least 1996-97 (
Andrew Kolar, 211, 2022-23).
It is McMullen's first collegiate victory.
FISH FINISHES STRONG…AND THE REST OF THE STORY
- Freshman Charlie Fish, playing in the tournament as an individual, ended in a tie for 11th place at 70-68-72—210. That mark gives Fish the second-best 54-hole score for an AU men's player since 1996-97.
- Rounding out the AU team effort at Indy were junior Carter Mishler (tied for 18th, 72-71-69—212), freshman Shaun Mazzalupi (tied for 26th, 73-73-70—216), freshman Mark Pillar (31st, 77-71-72—220), and junior Lukas Schreck (tied for 51st, 74-79-76—229).
