Men’s Soccer Opens League Play With Home Loss To Oilers

At Ferguson Field on Thursday (Sept. 19), Ashland University's men's soccer team lost a 3-1 decision to Findlay in the 2024 Great Midwest Athletic Conference opener for both sides.

The Eagles are 1-3 overall and 0-1 in the league, and the Oilers are 3-1, 1-0.

Findlay dented the scoreboard first in the 15th minutes, as Brendan Ash scored in front of the Eagle goal on an assist from Tyler Pawlicki.

Ashland countered right before halftime, however, when fifth-year midfielder Oliver Whaley's first goal of 2024 was headed in on a cross from senior midfielder Evans Armah – his first point at AU.

Findlay's tiebreaker came in the 75th minute on a bad-angle header from Joey Chirco. The assist came from Maciej Gaszynski. The Oilers added an insurance goal in the 84th minute when Gaszynski found Oliver Lindstrom for a long strike.

…AND THE REST OF THE STORY
  • Ashland had a 9-7 shots advantage, as well as a 5-2 corner kick edge.
  • Sophomore goalkeeper Zach Harrison played the last 58 minutes, following senior keeper Ty Bowden's two saves in the first 32 minutes of action.
