Logan Posthumously Enters USTFCCCA Coaches Hall Of Fame

On Tuesday (Aug. 6) afternoon, former Ashland University head track and field coach Jud Logan posthumously joined the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Coaches Hall of Fame.
 
Logan, who passed away at age 62 on Jan. 3, 2022, served as the Eagles' head track and field coach from 2005-22, and was Ashland's throws coach for 13 years prior to that. As AU's head coach, he guided the men's program to three consecutive NCAA Division II championships – 2019 indoors and outdoors and 2021 indoors. As a head coach, his teams earned 42 Top 10 national placements and his student-athletes won 59 individual national championships and collected 457 All-America honors.
 
He also earned 23 Coach of the Year awards, including:
  • Three-time U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Division II men's national indoor Coach of the Year.
  • 2019 USTFCCCA men's national outdoor Coach of the Year.
  • 2008 USTFCCCA women's national indoor Coach of the Year.
  • Five-time USTFCCCA Division II men's Great Lakes Region/Midwest Region indoor Coach of the Year.
  • Four-time USTFCCCA Division II men's Great Lakes Region/Midwest Region outdoor Coach of the Year.
  • Six-time Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) men's outdoor Coach of the Year
  • Three-time GLIAC men's indoor Coach of the Year.
Logan will enter the Hall along with Dave Cianelli, Cal Poly / SMU / Virginia Tech; Frank Gramarosso, North Central (Ill.); Ron Helmer, Georgetown / Indiana; Ford Mastin, Oklahoma Baptist; and Connie Price-Smith, Southern Illinois / Ole Miss. The 2024 USTFCCCA Coaches Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony will be Dec. 17 at the USTFCCCA Convention at the Grande Lakes Resort in Orlando, Fla..
 

A world-class thrower, he was a four-time United States Olympian (1984, 1988, 1992, 2000) and also competed in the Pan-American Games, the Goodwill Games and the World Championships. At one point, he had the American record of 268-8 in the hammer throw. Logan was the 1987 Pan-American Games men's hammer throw champion. He was a 2002 inductee to the Ohio Association of Track and Cross Country Coaches Hall of Fame and a 2015 inductee into the National Throws Coaches Association Throwers Hall of Fame.

Logan was the commencement speaker at the 2021 Ashland University spring graduation ceremony at Jack Miller Stadium/Martinelli Field.
 
He was a 1982 Kent State graduate, and a graduate of North Canton Hoover High School.
