Rios Repeats As G-MAC Freshman Of The Meet, Women Take Second, Men Finish Third

Ashland University redshirt freshman Hailey Rios apparently liked being Great Midwest Athletic Conference Women's Freshman of the Meet that she wanted to do it again.
 
After earning the honor indoors in March, Rios did so again on Friday (May 3) after the third and final day of the 2024 Great Midwest Outdoor Championships at Hillsdale. Rios was part of the winning women's 4x400-meter relay team, along with senior Elizabeth Adams, sophomore Jade Avance and junior Mia Gardner, that finished in 3:39.74. That time was an improved provisional mark for the 2024 NCAA Division II Championships, May 23-25 in Emporia, Kan..
 
Rios also was part of the second-place women's 4x100 relay, along with freshman Odessa Smith, senior Alena Williams and junior Greta Barker (45.66, improved provo), finished third in the women's 100 dash in 11.92 seconds, and was fourth in the women's 200 dash in 24.30 seconds. On Thursday (May 2), Rios won the conference title in the women's long jump.
 
The men's 4x400 relay won with an improved provo time as well, as senior Brenden Jackson and juniors Noah Wood, Ethan Schuster and Jacob Pielech turned in a time of 3:09.33.
 
In the women's 400 dash, Adams won with an improved provo time of 54.32 seconds, while in the men's 400 hurdles, Jackson did the same in 51.45 seconds. Senior T.J. Skinner took the men's 110 hurdles in 14.21 seconds.
 
Senior Emma Liberatore tied for the conference title in the women's high jump, finishing in 1.67 meters/5-feet-5¾.
 
In the final team standings, Ashland's women were second with 152 points (trailing only Findlay's 194.5), and the Eagle men were third with 146 points (behind only Findlay's 189 and Tiffin's 157).
 
SECOND PLACE – Avance in the women's 400 dash (54.87 seconds, improved provo), sophomore Daylen Madison in the men's 800 run (1:49.01, improved provo), sophomore Garrett Baker in the men's pole vault (5.01 meters/16-feet-5¼), and junior Kelsey Kinsley in the women's shot put (14.12 meters/46-feet-4).
 
THIRD PLACE – Smith in the women's 400 hurdles (1:02.21, new provo) and women's 100 hurdles (14.20 seconds), and Pielech in the men's 400 dash (47.66 seconds).
 
FOURTH PLACE – Junior D.J. Duncan in the men's 110 hurdles (14.32 seconds), sophomore Abby Wheeler in the women's high jump (tied, 1.59 meters/5-feet-2½), freshman Lucas Anderson in the men's 100 dash (10.76 seconds), senior McKenna Woodruff in the women's 800 run (2:12.59), junior Brock Janowicz in the men's discus throw (44.12 meters/144-feet-9), freshman Alex Eggleston in the men's 400 hurdles (54.10 seconds), and Williams in the women's 100 dash (12.10 seconds).
 
FIFTH PLACE – Freshman Colton Thress in the men's 800 run (1:51.89), freshman Kara Fields in the women's 100 hurdles (14.58 seconds), Wood in the men's 400 dash (47.89 seconds), freshman Justin Patrick in the men's discus throw (44.06 meters/144-feet-6), junior Catherine Dial in the women's shot put (13.35 meters/43-feet-9¾), Gardner in the women's 400 dash (55.48 seconds), Barker in the women's 200 dash (24.89 seconds), and junior Cole LaRoche in the men's shot put (15.23 meters/49-feet-11¾).
 
SIXTH PLACE – Barker in the women's 100 dash (12.24 seconds), junior Julian Griffin in the men's 110 hurdles (14.47 seconds), Skinner in the men's 200 dash (21.45 seconds), junior Lily Dowdell in the women's 1,500 run (4:37.86), and senior Riley Thomas in the women's triple jump (11.39 meters/37-feet-4½).
 
SEVENTH PLACE – Junior Wyatt Cory in the men's pole vault (4.31 meters/14-feet-1¾), Patrick in the men's shot put (14.98 meters/49-feet-1¾), sophomore Medgine Wojton in the women's 100 dash (12.32 seconds), junior Hailey Maloon in the women's high jump (tied, 1.59 meters/5-feet-2½), senior Hope Sievert in the women's 800 run (2:16.03), Anderson in the men's 200 dash (21.56 seconds), and junior Kaylyn Barnette in the women's discus throw (41.10 meters/134-feet-10).
 
EIGHTH PLACE – Redshirt freshman Molly Winner in the women's shot put (13.23 meter/43-feet-5), junior Dylan Phelps in the men's 400 hurdles (54.83 seconds), and freshman Avonlea Jefferson in the women's 100 hurdles (14.65 seconds).
