The first day of the 2024 Great Midwest Athletic Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships was Wednesday (May 1) at Hillsdale, and the No. 17-ranked Ashland University men and Eagle women already are on the team scoreboard.

In the men's hammer throw, eight points were collected by the triumvirate of junior
Jesse Houle (fifth place, 61.61 meters/202-feet-1), junior
Brock Janowicz (sixth, 57.86 meters/189-feet-10) and redshirt freshman
Aidan Hernandez-Jenkins (eighth, 54.87 meters/180-feet-0).

Then, in the men's 10,000-meter run, sophomore
Braeden Geist finished seventh in 31:39.52.

That gave Ashland's men 10 team points through two events, putting the Eagles in fourth place.

Junior
Kaylyn Barnette finished seventh in the women's hammer throw at 51.95 meters/170-feet-5. With two team points, Ashland's women are in a tie for eighth place through two events.

Also on Wednesday, junior
Wyatt Cory leads the men's decathlon through five of 10 events with 3,571 points, and in the women's heptathlon, freshman
Kara Fields is in first place with 3,063 points though four of seven events.
