On Tuesday (April 23) at Tomassi Stadium and Donges Field at the Archer Ballpark Complex, the No. 7-ranked Ashland University baseball team lost 11-6 to Gannon in its final regular-season non-conference game of 2024.
Â
The Eagles are 34-7 overall and 20-4 in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference going into the last two league series of the season.
Â
Gannon (7-29) opened the game with a run in the top of the first, and Ashland quickly responded with two runs on an RBI groundout from junior catcher
Ben Peltz, then a Golden Knights balk. The Eagles made it a 3-1 contest on another RBI groundout, this one from junior center fielder
Cam Miller, in the bottom of the second.
Â
Ashland kept its run going into the bottom of the fourth, scoring twice thanks to an RBI single from sophomore designated hitter
Ryan Shimek and a sacrifice fly from junior third baseman
Jeremiah Cangelosi. The Golden Knights scored twice in the top of the sixth and four times in the top of the seventh to take a 7-5 advantage.
Â
Needing to rally in the late innings, the Eagles began in the bottom of the seventh with an RBI double from junior left fielder
Max Caron. Gannon, however, scored twice in the top of the eighth and ninth for the final margin of victory.
