Softball Loses Both Ends Of Home Twinbill With T’Wolves

On Sunday (April 14) afternoon at Deb Miller Field at the Archer Ballpark Complex, Ashland University's softball team lost 5-2 and 6-4 to Northwood in a Great Midwest Athletic Conference doubleheader.
 
Going into Sunday's play, the Timberwolves, now 26-15 overall and 13-7 in the conference, were in the fifth spot in the league standings, while the Eagles, now 16-21, 9-9, were in the No. 6 spot.
 
In Game 1, Northwood broke open a 1-1 game with three runs in the top of the fifth inning. In the nightcap, the Timberwolves scored three runs in the second and two in the third, but Ashland rallied for four in the fourth – highlighted by a two-run double from freshman designated player Delaney Keith.
 
POST-GAME NUGGETS
  • Junior designated player/pitcher Cassidy Shaffer drove in two runs in Sunday's opener, but was the losing pitcher in relief (3-7), giving up six hits and four runs (three earned) and striking out two in three innings.
  • In Game 2, sophomore center fielder Ashley Veldheer went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored. Sophomore pitcher Delaney Lis (3-7) yielded six hits, five runs and a walk in 2 1/3 innings.
UP NEXT
Ashland will go to Lake Erie on Thursday (April 18) at 3 p.m. for another conference twinbill. The games were rescheduled from March 30.
