To begin a four-game Great Midwest Athletic Conference series on Saturday (April 13) at Tomassi Stadium and Donges Field at the Archer Ballpark Complex, the No. 13-ranked Ashland University baseball team took 11-4 and 19-1 decisions from Thomas More.

The Eagles began the day in a three-way tie for first place in the Great Midwest, but finished it alone in first at 27-5 overall and 13-3 in the league. The Saints are 10-25, 3-17.

During Saturday's twinbill, Ashland collected 30 runs and 39 hits. The Eagles have scored double-digit runs in four straight games, and 16 times so far in 2024.

In Game 1, Ashland put up crooked numbers in the bottom of the first (four runs) and fifth (five runs) innings. In the nightcap, the Eagles scored all 19 of their runs in five innings – two each in the first and second, three in the fourth, eight in the fifth and four in the sixth.

POST-GAME NUGGETS
- The opener saw junior left-handed pitcher Marshall Leishman (6-0) stay unbeaten in 2024, after allowing five hits, three runs and two walks and striking out three in 4 1/3 innings. Junior righty Hunter Allen earned his first save with 4 2/3 frames of relief – becoming the fifth Eagle to pick up a save this spring.
- Sophomore second baseman Gavin Dobbels was 3-for-6 with three runs scored, two RBIs and a stolen base in the opener, then went 2-for-3 with a home run, a steal, three runs scored and two RBIs in Game 2.
- Also in Game 2, junior left fielder Max Caron launched two homers, and ended 3-for-3 with three RBIs and three runs scored. Junior first baseman Ben Peltz was 2-for-4 with a homer and four RBIs, and junior third baseman Jeremiah Cangelosi went 2-for-4 with three RBIs.
- Junior righty Cam Scott (5-0) also remained unbeaten this season after striking out three and yielding two hits, a run and three walks over three innings. He also went 3-for-5 with a double and triple as a first baseman in Game 1.
