On Friday (March 15) at Deb Miller Field at the Archer Ballpark Complex, Ashland University's softball team lost 5-0 and 7-3 decisions to Trevecca Nazarene in the Eagles' 2024 home and Great Midwest Athletic Conference openers.

The Eagles are 6-13 overall and 0-2 in the league, and the Trojans are 18-8, 2-0.

In the opener, the Trojans scored single runs in each of the first three runs. Trevecca then added solo tallies in the fifth and sixth innings for the final margin of victory.

The nightcap saw TNU scoring three times in the second and once in the third, then Eagles broke into the score column in the bottom of the third when sophomore center fielder
Ashley Veldheer collected a two-out RBI single.

Then, in the bottom of the fourth, freshman third baseman
Sophia Martin launched a two-run home run to cut the AU deficit to 4-3. The Trojans, however, scored three times in the top of the fifth to pull away.

POST-GAME NUGGETS
- In Game 1, freshman catcher Delaney Keith went 2-for-3. Junior pitcher Bryn Grabowski (1-4) allowed six hits, three runs (two earned) and a walk and struck out two in four innings.
- Game 2 saw Veldheer go 3-for-4 with an RBI, and Martin finish 2-for-3 with two runs, a homer and two RBIs. Sophomore pitcher Delaney Lis (2-4) yielded 12 hits, seven runs and no walks in 4 1/3 innings.
