On Saturday (Dec. 14) afternoon at the Sherrill Hudson Court at Kates Gymnasium, the Ashland University men's basketball team lost 76-58 to Kentucky Wesleyan.
The Eagles are 5-3 overall and 2-1 in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference, and the Panthers are 6-2, 1-0 after their sixth consecutive victory.
At the game's first media stoppage exactly six minutes into the game, the two teams were tied at 9. An 10-4 Panthers spurt followed, but the Eagles returned serve to a 19-19 tie – as junior forward
Maceo Williams already had a dozen points in less than 13 minutes of game action.
Kentucky Wesleyan took a 29-24 lead, and led 33-31 at the break. Williams posted 17 points, six rebounds, a steal and an assist in 18 first-half minutes.
Williams nearly single-handedly kept the Eagles close to start the second half, as his old-fashioned 3-point play at the 15:17 mark made it a 42-41 KWC lead – and gave Williams 27 points to that point.
The Panthers worked their lead back up, however, and it was 72-47 with exactly five minutes to go.
Williams finished the contest with 33 points, 10 rebounds, a steal and an assist in 33 minutes. He was 15-of-24 from the field, and recorded his fourth double-double of 2024-25. Williams now has 971 career points – 29 away from becoming the 32
nd player in program history to reach 1,000 as an Eagle.
