To end play at the D2CCA Tip-Off Classic in St. Joseph, Mo., the No. 5-ranked Ashland University women's basketball team topped Missouri Southern, 74-44, on Sunday (Nov. 3) night.
The Eagles move to 1-1 on the young 2024-25 season, while the Lions are 0-2. Ashland avoided an overall three-game losing streak for the first time since early in the COVID-19 pandemic-adjusted 2020-21 season.
Ashland finished the first quarter on a 9-0 run to take a 24-14 lead into the second period. Yet another 9-0 spurt in the second quarter moved the Eagle advantage to 17 points at 33-16.
By halftime, Ashland had doubled up on Missouri Southern, 42-21. The Eagles led by no fewer than 18 points in the second half.
Senior forward
Zoe Miller tied her collegiate career high with 25 points, and grabbed a career-best 12 rebounds, in the victory. She was 9-of-14 from the field, and added four assists and two steals.
MCKEE STRONG OFF THE BENCH AGAIN…AND THE REST OF THE STORY
- Senior forward Sarah McKee scored double-digit points off the bench for the second straight day, ending Sunday with 11 points to go with five rebounds, two assists, a block and two steals.
- Freshman guard Ashley Mullet made her first collegiate start, finishing with 10 points.
- Ashland made 41.4 percent (12-for-29) from 3-point range, and was 6-of-7 from the free-throw line.
- The Eagles finished with 22 assists on 28 made field goals.
