No. 3 Women’s Soccer Tops Storm On The Road, 2-0

On Saturday (Oct. 26) afternoon in Painesville, Ohio, the No. 3-ranked Ashland University women's soccer team defeated Lake Erie, 2-0, in a Great Midwest Athletic Conference road game.
 
With their 17th consecutive victory over the Storm, the Eagles improve to 13-1-1 overall and 10-0-1 in the Great Midwest – staying alone atop the league table. Lake Erie is 2-12-1, 0-10-1.
 
The game was scoreless until the 37th minute, when senior forward Sydney McMillan scored for the second consecutive game. Her third tally of the season, assisted by fifth-year forward Allison King (her first of 2024) put the Eagles ahead going into halftime.
 
In the 58th minute, Ashland went up 2-0 when senior forward McKinley Mendenhall scored her ninth goal of the campaign and 28th of her career – breaking a tie for ninth place on the program's all-time list.
 
ANOTHER COMBINED CLEAN SHEET…AND THE REST OF THE STORY
  • Fifth-year goalkeeper Mackenzie Simon (first half, no saves) and senior keeper Maddie Dolenga (second half, two saves) teamed up for the 11th shutout of the season in 15 games.
  • Ashland out-shot Lake Erie, 16-3, and had all of the game's 17 corner kicks.
