For the second time in two weeks, Ashland University's volleyball team defeated Great Midwest Athletic Conference East Division rival Walsh – this time 3-1 (18-25, 25-10, 25-18, 25-18) on Saturday (Oct. 26) night at the Sherrill Hudson Court at Kates Gymnasium.
The Eagles improve to 15-7 overall and 8-1 in the Great Midwest after a seventh straight conference win, and now have a two-match lead and the season tiebreaker over the Cavaliers (13-9, 6-3) with seven regular-season matches to go.
"I said tonight, I'm just so proud of you," said Ashland head coach
Katie Kuhn, whose team has won three matches in a row after losing three at the Midwest Region Crossover. "They just played very well, stuck to the game plan. We're just very determined. Very proud of the effort tonight.
"I think the Crossover was very good for us. We played very good competition and set us up well to compete in the G-MAC. It has really helped us out to get on a little bit of a streak here."
AN ALL-AROUND TEAM WIN…AND THE REST OF THE STORY
- On defense, Ashland kept Walsh to a .128 team hitting percentage. Both sophomore libero Abbey Queen (17) and freshman outside hitter Samantha Young (13) had double-digit digs.
- Offensively, sophomore setter Kylee Urban ended with 42 assists, three service aces and two kills, and double-digit kills were turned in by senior right-side hitter GraceAnn Hartman (16), freshman outside hitter Sara Krizsa (14) and Young (10).
- "This was a big win, to be able to get them at home," said Kuhn. "Walsh is a very good competitor to compete against us in our pod. We're very excited to get this win tonight."
