Prior to the official start of the 2024-25 season, Ashland University's men's basketball team played at NCAA Division I Dayton in an exhibition game on Saturday (Oct. 26) night, losing to the Flyers, 65-56.
An early 7-7 tie turned into a 40-27 Flyers lead at the half. Dayton led by 17 at 54-37 with 11:23 to go, but the Eagles kept chipping away – to the point where Ashland trailed by just eight at 62-54 going into the game's final two minutes.
The Eagles outscored Dayton in the second half by a 29-25 count.
A TRIO OF DOUBLE-DIGIT SCORERS…AND THE REST OF THE STORY
- Three Eagles scored in double figures on Saturday night – junior forward Maceo Williams (14 points), senior wing Stefan Stanic (14 points), and junior point guard Jaron Crews (12 points).
- Williams was 9-for-9 at the free-throw line, leading a 13-for-18 Eagle effort from the charity stripe. He also added three steals and two blocks.
- Stanic not only hit all five of his shots from the field, he also paced Ashland rebounders with seven.
- The Eagles kept the Flyers to 38.3 percent shooting from the field, including 34.5 percent in the second half.
