No. 4 Eagle Women Score Three Late, Top Dragons On The Road

Ashland University's women's soccer team, ranked No. 4 in NCAA Division II, scored three second-half goals in a span of nine minutes on Thursday (Oct. 17) night at Tiffin, finishing with a 3-0 victory.

The win keeps the Eagles alone in first place atop the Great Midwest Athletic Conference table, and improves their record to 10-1-1 overall and 7-0-1 in the league following a 12th consecutive decision in the series and sixth straight win overall. The Dragons are 1-10-1, 1-6-1.

After nearly 74 minutes of scoreless soccer, junior forward Dani Hicks scored an unassisted goal – her team-high eighth of the season. Then, in the 82nd and 83rd minutes, senior forward McKinley Mendenhall and Hicks added the insurance goals, respectively – Mendenhall's fifth and Hicks' ninth of the campaign.

Hicks now has 27 career goals at AU, tied for eighth-most in the history of the program.

Assisting on Mendenhall's tallies were junior defender Natalie Miskerik (first of 2024) and Mendenhall (team-high sixth of 2024).

SHUTOUT NO. 9 OF THE FALL…AND THE REST OF THE STORY
  • Ashland's goalkeeping duo of senior Maddie Dolenga and fifth-year Mackenzie Simon finished Thursday with their ninth clean sheet of the campaign. Dolenga played the first half and Simon the second, and each made two saves.
  • The Eagles came into Thursday's game ranked second in the country in corner kicks per game with 9.18, and had 11 at Tiffin.
  • Ashland out-shot the Dragons by an 11-7 count.
