On Thursday (Jan. 11) night in Tiffin, the No. RV Ashland University men's basketball team lost 70-49 to the Dragons in a Great Midwest Athletic Conference matchup.
The Eagles are 10-4 overall and 4-3 in the league, and the Dragons are 9-4, 3-2.
Ashland trailed 4-0 at the under-16 media timeout to start the game, then the Dragons extended that lead to 8-0 before the Eagles scored inside of the 15-minute mark on a layup from sophomore point guard
Simon Wheeler. Tiffin then took its first double-digit lead at 14-4.
The Dragons sported a 21-7 lead – and that was when the Eagles started their comeback. A layup from sophomore forward
Maceo Williams cut the AU deficit to 23-18, and the 11-2 run forced a Tiffin timeout.
By halftime, however, Tiffin had worked its lead back to double figures at 32-21 thanks to a 9-3 spurt of its own.
Trailing 39-23 early in the second half, Ashland attempted another comeback. Six consecutive points put the Eagles down by 10, but Tiffin again had the answer and led 56-38 inside of the 10-minute mark.
POST-GAME NUGGETS
- Wheeler finished the night with 14 points and seven rebounds, while junior guard Trevell Adams added 11 points.
